Fan Installation That Won't Wobble or Sag

Ceiling fan installation and conversion from existing light fixtures.

Any ceiling fan installation starts with the box, since a standard fixture box isn't rated to handle a fan's weight and vibration and can eventually pull loose from the ceiling. If we're converting an existing light fixture location to a fan, we replace the box with a fan-rated or listed model anchored directly to a joist or brace bar, which usually requires a small amount of ceiling access even in a retrofit.

Wiring needs to support both the fan motor and a separate light kit if included, which sometimes means running an additional conductor or installing a fan-rated wall control with separate fan and light switching. For rooms with vaulted or sloped ceilings, we use a sloped-ceiling mounting kit rated for the actual pitch rather than forcing a flat-ceiling bracket to work.

Once mounted, we balance the fan and test it at every speed setting to catch wobble before we leave, since a fan that isn't balanced will loosen its own mounting over time.
