Most landscape lighting runs on a low-voltage transformer system, which is safer to install and maintain but still needs correct wire gauge sizing to avoid voltage drop across long runs common on larger rural properties. We bury cable to the appropriate depth, route it away from irrigation lines and areas gophers are active, and use connectors rated for direct burial rather than standard wire nuts that corrode quickly underground.
For driveway and security lighting needing more consistent output over long distances, we sometimes recommend line-voltage fixtures on a dedicated GFCI-protected exterior circuit instead. Transformers get mounted in a weatherproof, ventilated location and sized with headroom for the total fixture wattage rather than run at capacity.
We also time landscape lighting installation around irrigation and hardscape work where possible so cable isn't laid and then dug up again for a sprinkler line installed afterward.
